Canadian Association of Anatomy, Neurobiology,
and Cell Biology Graduate Students

Association Canadienne des Etudiants Gradues d'Anatomie, de Neurobiologie, et de Biologie Cellulaire


For students who are not members, we encourage you to join the CAANCB/ACANBC as a student member. Any graduate student enrolled in a Department of Anatomy or an associated department (this includes Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Molecular Biology and related departments) in Canada may join the Graduate Student Division of the CAANCB/ACANBC
by joining the CAANCB/ACANBC as a student member. Membership information can be found under the Constitution of the Association below.

This year, the Graduate Student Division of the CAANCB/ACANBC is requesting nominations or volunteers from the general membership of the Association for the positions of President and Secretary/Treasurer.

A term of 1-2 years will be requested by the individual and nominees need to be members of the CAANCB/ACANBC. The President's responsibilities include attending CAANCB/ACANBC council meetings, serving on the Awards Committee, and organizing social events for graduate students at the annual meetings. The Secretary/Treasurer will act to assist the President in these duties and also take care of finances for the Graduate Student Association.

Any graduate student enrolled in a Department of Anatomy (this includes Cell Biology and Molecular Biology departments) in Canada may join CAANCBGC/ACEGANBC by joining the CAANCB/ACANBC as a student member. This is a minimal fee ($22.84) that is payable to:

CAANCBGS/ACEGANBC Constitution


Section I - Preamble

Article 1: The name of the organization will be the Canadian Association for Anatomy, Neurobiology, and Cell Biology Graduate Students (CAANCBGS)/Association Canadienne des Etudiants Gradues en Anatomie, Neurobiologie et de Biologie Cellulaire (ACEGANBC), (hereinafter referred to as the Association).

Article 2: The goals of the Association include:

a) providing an effective link between graduate students and the CAANCB/ACANBC,
b) giving students specific representation within the CAANCB/ACANBC,
c) organizing special events for the benefit of graduate student members of the CAANCB/ACANBC.


Section II - Membership

Article 1: Any graduate student enrolled in a Department of Anatomy in Canada may join the Association by joining the CAANCB/ACANBC as a student member. Students must be sponsored by a member of the CAANCB/ACANBC.

Article 2: The annual call for dues for members of the Association shall be handled by the CAANCB/ACANBC Treasurer with transfer of the appropriate amount into the Association account.


Section III- Organizational Structure

Article 1: There shall be a Council in which final authority resides for the legislation of policies of the Association. The Council shall consist of a President, Secretary-Treasurer, and one graduate student representative from each Anatomy Department in Canada.

Article 2: There shall be an elected executive which shall consist of the positions of President and Secretary/Treasurer.

The President shall:

  1. be responsible for the general functioning of the Association;
  2. be sole spokesman for the Association;
  3. be responsible for convening meetings of the Association;
  4. be ultimately responsible for the finances of the Association;
  5. be a member of the CAA Awards Committee;
  6. be a member of the Council of the CAA;
  7. be a co-signatory of cheques.

The Secretary/Treasurer shall:

  1. be responsible for recording and circulating of the minutes of Council meetings;
  2. refer all correspondence of the Council and the Association to the Secretary;
  3. receive all accounts due to the Association;
  4. prepare a yearly budget;
  5. be a co-signatory of cheques.


Section III - Meetings

Article 1: The Association shall meet every year at the CFBS meeting. This meeting shall be the Annual General Meeting. The order of business of this meeting shall include the election of a President and a Secretary/Treasurer.

Article 2: The quorum of the General Annual Meeting shall consist of thirty-three percent (33 %) of the CM student associate members present at the CFBS meeting.


Section IV- Constitution

Article 1: Constitutional amendments must occur at the General Annual Meeting and be approved by at least fifty percent and one member of the quorum.
